Consultant ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon with subspecialty expertise in cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery
Miles is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon with a private practice at The London Clinic, Harley Street. He specialises in ophthalmic cosmetic, reconstructive and lacrimal (tear drainage) surgery.
He also holds a substantive NHS consultant post at the Royal Free London and established the oculoplastic service at North Middlesex University Hospital, where he serves as Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology. He also has expertise in cataract and pterygium surgery.
As an honorary clinical lecturer at UCL and assistant professor at St. George's University, Miles is actively involved in training the next generation of ophthalmologists.

Make a list of question that you would like to ask Miles during your consultation

If you are having eyelid plastic surgery please bring old photos of yourself and photos that might help illustrate your desired results. This will help Miles understand your goals and make personalised recommendations.

During your consultaton Miles will ask about your health, past medical history, and any medication that you are taking. It is important to provide accurate answers as this can impact surgical planning. It is helpful to have a list of your medications written down.

Miles would encourage you to take some notes during or after the consultation. This can help you remember the details of the consultation and any recommendations made. It can also help you to make an informed decision about your care.
What to expect from your surgery

At your initial consultation Miles will review your ophthalmic and medical history and perform a comprehensive examination.
He will discuss your goals and expectations and help you decide what treatment approach is best for you. All options will be discussed and any relevant surgical procedures will be explained in detail.
Please take this opportunity to ask any questions you may have. It is also a good idea to take notes.

If you would like to proceed with surgery you will sign an informed consent form together with Miles. A copy of this will be provided.
The consent form will indicate the procedure to be performed, its benefits and risks. There is always an option to have no treatment, and the consent form is signed in advance of surgery to allow a cooling off period and the opportunity to change your mind.

In-office procedures
These procedures are performed in the clinic procedure room.
Surgery may last between 15mins and 2hours, depending on the complexity.
In-office procedures are performed under local anaesthetic and Intravenous sedation is not offered.
In-hospital procedures
If you are having your surgery in the hospital operating theatres intravenous sedation and general anaesthesia are available.
Whether you are having surgery in-office or in-hospital, clear pre- and post-operative instructions will be provided.
After arriving at the hospital you will book in with the reception staff and will be admitted by the nursing team. An anaesthetist will revue you prior to you surgery and discuss anaesthetic options.

After an in-office procedure
You may return home when you feel well enough to do so. We ask that someone accompanies you.
After an in-hospital procedure
If you have received a general anaesthetic or sedation you will be tranferred to a recovery area following your surgery so that you can be monitored until you are fully awake and ready to return home. After this you can be discharged, usually on the same day, but occasionally you may spend the night in hospital following an procedure.
Post-operative care
This will be discussed with you prior to discharge and written information on post-operative care will be provided. You will be given instructions about caring for any surgical incisions, applying antibiotic ointment, taking any prescribed medication, and activities to avoid in the post-operative period.

You will have a a follow-up appointment with Miles 5-10 days after your surgery. He will check the healing progress and sutures may be removed at this time.
You will have a further, usually final, follow-up appointment 2-3months later.
